Thinking is hard work

Thinking is hard work so we had a much needed summer break and now we are hard at work dreaming up coats. I think a few fall colour day trips will help keep the creativity flowing.

Janey Mac Chillies

Warm and fuzzy ideas for chilly days. Janey was convinced the sight hound coats were all for her. I keep telling her that hounds come in all sizes and that some of her cousins don't have the warm fuzzy fur that comes natural to her. She gave me her "oh I'll just smile and humour this silly human" ....

I'm so glad that I can re-use clothing especially the ones that had a rip and otherwise would have been thrown away. Now they have a new purpose of keeping someone special warm.

Janey Mac Celt and other fine tales

I just love myths and stories and was inspired to recreate them in the coats. This was my contribution to the the many stories I've enjoyed. The buckle is a picture of the Beowulf emblem from a recent movie. I thought it was cool and I will draw upon it as inspiration. I wonder which one of my two is Beowulf and which one is Grendel.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out which category a coat belongs in because I like to combine both the ink styles and the celtic styles.  They seem to work well together.  I've even found that the proud to be Canadian coats work well with the inking.  Especially the glow-in-the-dark paint that I found to make the coats visible in the winter time.

Janey reminds me of a mythical creature. Sometimes very dragon like. Gryphon, raptor, panther. You have to know and live with a wolfhound to understand what I mean. They are an ancient breed with many famous stories, myths and folklore. An ancient hound of kings that drove the wolves out of Ireland and could take down a man on horseback during times of war. Deer and stag hunters, hounds of famous Irish warriors. All this material has given me many ideas to try to create in my coats.

One of my favourite mythical creatures are dragons. Then I realized how much I love beautiful silks and Asian fabrics. Dragons, lanterns, bamboo etc., - - it was a lot of fun playing around with some of these ideas. I look forward to finding some more material and ideas.

This section is special to me. I want to thank the following dogs. I wonder if they know how much love went into each coat. Corny as it sounds, you really can't make a coat from start to finish without a bit of soul going into them. It's part of the creative process and some days you hit a brick wall or artistic block and other days the ideas are coming in overtime! I love the fact that the coats are as individual as the the dog that wears them. That's cool! Also a huge thank you to the wonderful models that take the time to wear the coats and smile for the camera.
